The Engineering Department ensures that the Town's municipal services such as roads, water and wastewater systems and storm water drainage/management facilities are designed for the appropriate protection, health and quality of life of the public, and good engineering practices.
The Engineering Department's core business includes the:
- Assessment, planning, review and design of municipal infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, storm drainage, water and wastewater systems.
- Review and comment on municipal servicing issues at various stages of development including Official Plan Amendment, Secondary Plan, Draft Plan of Subdivision and site plan.
- Prepare and administer subdivision, site plan and other municipal servicing agreements.
- Coordinate or undertake special engineering studies required to determine servicing requirements such as sewage flow monitoring, transportation master plans, need studies, environmental assessments and storm water management monitoring programs, and develop associated implementation strategies.
- Prepare the engineering component of the Development Charge By-law.
- Develop and administer the Town's annual, short and long range capital plans and budgets for the expansion, reconstruction and upgrading of the Town's infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, storm drainage, water and wastewater systems.
- Develop, maintain and coordinate the use of the Town's water and wastewater systems computer models that are used in conjunction with design assignments, project management and infrastructure network analysis.
- Undertake traffic engineering studies, designs and impact assessments.
- Track the availability and allocation of servicing capacity.
- Coordinate the Town's Geographic Information System applications and drafting services including drawing repository.
