Downtown Enhancement Master Plan
The goal of this Master Plan is to establish an overall shared vision for the three downtowns; build upon the unique characteristics and opportunities in each downtown; and, set out a series of short and long term action items for downtown enhancement. The results of the Master Plan will provide Downtown Enhancement recommendations for Alliston, Tottenham and Beeton.
Regional WWTP and Beeton PS Remediation / Expansion Project
Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) was prepared in 1995 by C.C. Tatham & Associates Ltd. for the Town of New Tecumseth to address the wastewater treatment requirements associated with future growth in the Town. The Environmental Study Report (ESR) was filed on the public record in February 1996. The 1996 ESR recommended the construction of the Regional WWTP with a rated average day flow capacity of 5,063 m³ per day.
The Regional WWTP was commissioned in 1998. This facility is one of the two WWTP’s owned by the Town of New Tecumseth to serve the communities of Alliston and Beeton. Since start-up, there have been design and operational problems with the Regional WWTP. As a result, the Regional WWTP was not able to meet the MOE Certificate of Approval (C of A) requirements for effluent quality on a consistent basis.
Boyne Street Improvements
The Town of New Tecumseth is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment for the planned road improvements to Boyne Street from Victoria Street to approximately 1.7 kilometres north, as illustrated below. The Boyne Street improvements are being proposed to address future traffic capacity deficiencies that were identified in the Master Servicing Study, which was prepared in support of the Alliston Secondary Plan, Official Plan Amendment #21.
Council to Work with Library Board to Revitalize Branches
Mayor Mike MacEachern on behalf of Town Council is affirming Council’s commitment to work with the New Tecumseth Public Library Board to increase the use of the libraries.
Draft Official Plan Update
The Town’s first Official Plan was approved by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing 1995. The intent of this Amendment is to update the 1995 Official Plan to reflect current best practices and to implement, to the extent possible, the 2005 Provincial Policy Statement, the Greenbelt Plan, the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, the County of Simcoe Official Plan and changes to the Planning Act made by Bill 51.
Updated Leisure & Culture Master Plan
The Town of New Tecumseth offers a high quality of life to local residents through access to a varied open space system, its small community atmosphere, a strong employment base, and its proximity to other population centres. As a result, New Tecumseth continues to experience strong growth pressures, particularly in the form of residential development. Growth has largely been focused on the Town’s three settlement areas – Alliston (including Briar Hill), Beeton, and Tottenham.
In response to these issues, the Town has undertaken an update to the 2000 Leisure & Culture Master Plan. The scope of the Leisure & Culture Master Plan Update encompasses the acquisition, provision and distribution of parks, culture, and leisure facilities and services.
New Tecumseth Trails Development Initiative
Trails development offers many positive benefits for local residents and visitors alike including an increase in community livability, transportation options, economic development opportunities, enhanced personal health and fitness, tourism development, scenic beautification, and improved air to water quality. Trails also provide opportunities for both residents and visitors to travel to and experience local heritage, recreational, and cultural attractions.
