Community Transportation
Seniors & Residents with Special Assistance Mobility Needs
In January 2005, the Interim Community Transportation Program was implemented by the Town to provide transportation for seniors and residents with special assistance mobility needs. The program utilizes the services of local taxi companies (A-1 GTA Cab, New Tecumseth Taxi, G.S.I. Taxi, & Yellow Taxi) for conventional transportation as well as Parkview Transit for wheelchair accessible transportation.
As of March 1st, 2007, this program was revised to more efficiently utilize taxi resources and streamline the service provided to Town residents. Details of the revised program are as follows:
- Eligible trips include medical appointments and/or procedures within Town boundaries and once per week grocery shopping in the nearest community, Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. In addition, scheduled medical appointments/procedures at Stevenson Memorial Hospital are permitted on weekends.
- For conventional taxi transportation, please contact the taxi companies directly. Please note twenty-four (24) hour advance notice is required by the service providers to enable coordination of trips and grocery shopping trips will be arranged on pre-assigned days.
- For wheelchair assisted transportation, please contact the Joint Operations Centre in Beeton at (905) 729-1270, extension 427. Advance notice of two (2) business days is preferred when requesting special mobility assisted transportation.
- Fares are $3.00 each way for in-Town trips and $5.00 each way for trips between communities.
Registration forms are available by contacting the Town of New Tecumseth Administration Centre in Alliston at (705) 435-6219 or the Joint Operations Centre in Beeton at (905) 729-1270.
An application form must be completed for the special accessibility transportation.
