Urban Forest Survey
What is an Urban Forest Management Strategy?
It is a long-term (i.e., 20 year) plan that addresses: tree inventory needs, tree planting opportunities, tree care needs (e.g., pruning, cabling, soil amendments, etc.) and hazard prevention. This plan then outlines mechanisms of implementation, including development of more short-term plans incorporating these items on a priority basis, as well as ongoing public education, and anticipated budgetary requirements.
Why is Your Input Needed?
Most of the trees in New Tecumseth are located on private lands. If an Urban Forest Management Strategy is to succeed, the Town will need the support and participation of its’ residents, businesses and other landowners. Over 2006 and 2007 the Town of New Tecumseth has started to undertake a number of urban forestry initiatives on its own lands. Now the Town would like to proceed with a long-term urban forest strategy that engages the broader community in the care and management of the local trees.
